Virginia Rugby Union Hall of Fame inductee,William N. Walker was born April 3rd,1938 in Newton,Mass. Bill attended Newton High School,class of 1956,graduated from Wesleyan University,BA with Honors in 1960. Bill played rugby for Wesleyan as an undergraduate. Bill Walker with Jeff Savage founded the rugby club at University of Virginia while a law student in the early 60s,graduating JD in 1963.

While at UVA,Bill Walker was the first organizer for the venerable Commonwealth Cup Rugby Tournament. Yale,Notre Dame,and Princeton were the rugby sides that participated in the first Cup. The Commonwealth Cup grew into the premier spring rugby tournament on the east coast with the best rugby clubs in the east participating. After graduating from UVA Law School,Bill Walker founded the Chicago Lions RFC,which grew into the premier rugby club of the midwest. Bill was,also, co-founder of the Midwest Rugby Union with vic Hilarov of Wisconsin RFC. Bill served as Executive Secretary of the Midwest RU.

Interesting to note that Bill Walker was an outstanding baseball player leading the Cap Cod summer league in hitting the summer of 1957. Led New England colleges in Home Runs in 1960. Bill Walker signed a professional contract with the Baltimore Orioles in 1960 and played in the minors. Bill could not hit a slider so Law School became his best option. Bill Walker is currently member of the Winged Foot Golf Club in NY.
