Our Savannah Ruggerfest 2009 was a massive success grabbing the 35 and 45 Championship honors. Feel good players! Many thanks to the families and wives that supported our weekend.
Jamie Wiles and Family
Special thanks to Jason Figley for recruiting a classy group of NOVA Cardinals and to Steve Yeager for bringing on an equally good looking, talented and competitive OL'White group. Many thanks to Mike Puopolo for all his planning and roster management and imperial performance at fly with the 45s. Thank you Skip Yeager for playing big on both sides.
The 45s stomped through their bracket with aplomb, not allowing any points by their opponents and racking up some impressive points. The silky counter attack moves by Petrakes and Dean set up much of our play. The 35s always make it exciting ,never boring. The Hilton Head 35 finalists were large, contentious, and played great defense. So we waited and won The Championship in overtime with a penalty slot by Tyler Dixon.
By the way,we would be remiss to mention that our sides this weekend were staffed by three players that have represented our country on the international stage,Petrakes,Whelan, and Dean. We will always remember and honor their achievement.

Hey Cary, I enjoyed playing with guys, thanks for taking charge and setting it up. Take care Doc/Tom O'Neill USPO 540-628-3183
Thanks for the invite to play with the Cardinals. I truly enjoyed playing with people that I used to play with some 20 years ago and meeting a bunch of great guys. I wanted to thank you and all responsible for putting together the team. Whenever you need a tight 5 player, don't hesitate to email me. David Lazzo
From David Dean
As Doc said thank you so much for the chance to again hang with a great group of guys, have a lot of fun and play some good quality rugby. I really enjoyed getting to know some of the 45's better. That's a special bunch of guys that you have brought together. I hope to see you soon.
David Dean
Answer to David--
Always an honor to have you onboard. My 45/50 mates are indeed very special, too as you pointed out. I am very lucky to just be onboard. We have a wealth of leadership on the 45s and some very dedicated and enthusiastic players that have made them successful. The 45/50 Boys are ready to pack their bags anytime, anywhere. cheers,Cary
From Mike Puopolo
The sentiment shared by Mike Herron, Terry Whelan and myself was that it is weekends like this one that keep us from retiring from playing. Hopefully, we can add your name to that list, but either way it was great to play with you again. What a great time.
The 35's really came together. They do need to anticipate a strong "combined side" opponent in the finals even if they do outscore their opposition 88-0 on the first day. It says a lot that Hilton Head cheered the tie at the end of regulation on Sunday. Glad we played it out. Bummer for Hilton Head.
Cary, Thanks for the opportunity to play with the team. I met and re-met alot of guys that I played with and against in the past and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. It was a great weekend and I look forward to playing with you all again in the not so distant future. I'm going to try and play Mens Division I over the next year, but now that I'm eligible for Old Boys don't hesitate to include my in any invites. If I'm available I'd love to play. Thanks again for your efforts in putting everything together on and off the field., Ed Kerner
Kathleen Kennedy at Darlington Raceway on our way back to Virginia on monday. Darlington Raceway to Stock Car racing fans is like Landsdown Road,Cardiff Arms,Murrayfield is to a rugby player. Racing Hall of Fame at raceway. Worth the stop. Stock Car racing is a blood sport. Those old driver portraits in the Hall of Fame have the same look of glee that rugby players have on their faces after a good match.

Hello Tom and Jerry,
Tom--are you Gilfoyle's rugby secretary?
Its a red ball ,for pete's sake, not a red
dot! Dr. Gilfoyle is
confirmed paid up and the redball has been bestowed by
his name.

Delighted to hear from you. We may get invited to Stone Harbor/Avalon N.J. in June. We may, also, get invited back to New Zealand Ambassador's Cup in Wash DC in the fall. Keep your boots safe;we would be absolutely honored to have you join us for some classic rugby in the future. I will copy JK.
Best regards,

Delighted that you,Joey, and Doc can join us in Savannah. The master division in Savannah will be split into a 35 and 45 bracket so you,Dixie, may have to make a decision on how you wish to enjoy your playtime. All 35,all 45,or split playtime into both divisions. Joey, are you 44 yet? Get ready for a great rugby weekend!
Your money obligations with the Cardinals is $30 per player for tourney fee costs and you can expect your kit to cost around $100 if you want the jersey, shorts, and socks. If you already have your navy shorts and socks, you could manage with the new adidas jersey, $55,I think.
We expect to have specifics on the pesky money matters and how to pay and where to pay by Jan 20th. We have a hotel recommendation, the Hampton Inn, in the historic area. Rooms are expensive. We will have a hotel recommendation outside of the historic area off I95 soon within 20 minute drive to Savannah for less money.
If there is anything I can do to make the tour work for you,Joey, and Doc, do not hesitate to contact me. I will have more information by Jan 20th.
Yours in rugby,
For Savannah, the longer you wait the harder it is to get
decent rates. Last time I stayed out by the airport and that
was a pain in the butt and I do not want to do that again. I
am booked at the Hamptom Inn 912 721 1600 in the historic district at a
$199 a night rate, which was the second lowest rate I could
find (the Holiday Inn was $180, but they have no parking).
The flights are still fairly cheap to both places from New
York.
Look forward to seeing you.
Brian
